Fyfe sails Grand Prix asymmetric spinnakers include a wide range of options from an A0 through to an A7 we have all the options covered. This range includes:

A0. Asymmetric Spinnaker

Also commonly referred to as a Code 0 Used mostly for tight apparent breeze angles ranging from 45 degrees through to 120 degrees. Usually constructed from code 0 Kevlar laminate.

A1. Asymmetric Spinnaker

A light air gennaker designed for chasing soft breeze lines and keeping the boat moving forward in trying conditions. Designed with a flatter shape and tighter luff the sail remains stable and is usually constructed from .5oz sail cloth.

A2. Asymmetric Spinnaker

A full size running asymmetric for sailing in apparent breeze range from 130 degrees to 160 degrees wind angle. Often constructed from .75oz cloth and used in for sailing in 10-25knots of breeze. Designed with deeper sections for running deep and projecting as much sail forward of the mainsail as possible.

A3. Asymmetric Spinnaker

A full size reaching sail designed primarily for tight reaching with apparent wind angles of 115 to 140 degrees. An A3 can often be considered as an all purpose gennaker. Complements an existing sail inventory.

A4. Asymmetric Spinnaker

A full size running asymmetric. Constructed from 1oz or 1.5oz cloth designed with full sections for sailing in heavy air over 25knts.

A5. Asymmetric Spinnaker

Usually a fractional asymmetric Heavy air reaching sail. Can often be constructed from 1.5oz cloth or code 0 style laminate cloth. Flat with narrow shoulders this sail is used in 25knts of wind or more and is used for sailing at apparent wind angles of 115degrees to 140 degrees.

A6. Asymmetric Spinnaker

A fractional Heavy air runner. Designed with full sections and a tight luff to stabilise the sail in heavy air blasting conditions. Always constructed form 1.5oz cloth to handle stormy conditions.

A7. Asymmetric Spinnaker

A fractional storm sail. Designed flat with a tight luff to aid steering across waves in offshore conditions. A true storm kite it can also be used in light tight reaching conditions in the absence of a code 0. Always constructed from code 0 laminate style cloth.

Gennaker Trends:

On a cruising yacht a staysail can be used in many different ways.

Often set up on a furler system on an inner forstay a staysail can be used as a heavy weather sail. This eliminates the risks associated with going on the foredeck in rough weather.

Staysails can also be free hoisted or hanked onto a temporary forstay .

They can also offer a performance boost sheeted inside a yankee or genoa when reaching creating a “slot effect” this can often help maintain a better average speed towards your destination especially when sailing ocean passages.

MPA

Multi purpose Asymmetric. This is an asymmetric type sail that is typically flown of the bow to enhance downwind sailing without the hassle of a spinnaker pole. Can be used with an ATN style snuffer sock for launching and retrieving.

MPS

A multipurpose spinnaker flown from a spinnaker pole for general sailing and ocean cruising. Can be used with an ATN style snuffer sock for launching and retrieving.

Snuffer Socks

These are tubular socks with a fibreglass front lip. Flown from above the spinnaker they can be pulled down to collapse and douse the sail making the dropping of the spinnaker easier and less risky especially short handed of family cruising.
When relaunching the spinnaker the Snuffer remains over the spinnaker and is then hoisted up by a separate line allowing the spinnaker to fly.
